Can anyone give me any ideas for a starter for xmas dinner. I'm feeding 6 people.
Don't want to do prawn or fish of any kind - 2 people wont eat it.
One of them is also a vegetarian and one wont eat salad!

Bl***y fussy eaters!

any ideas will be gratefully recieved.

that's a bit daft - how can i do a prawn cocktail when i said i don't want to use prawns.

i don't mean to be unkind but i think you might be taking the mickey - or maybe you didn't understand my question!!

Thankyou Boo.
my first answer was to nanagedon.

i might opt for the garlic mushrooms - even though one of my party doesn't eat them, but that person is my teenage daughter and i'm never going to be able to please her!!
Blimey nanagedon.....you told cameo off good and proper eh? LOL

And I don't mean to be picky, but if some of 'em wont eat prawns, they aint gonna eat em, no matter how much of that 'pink' sauce you dollop on top of it.

runs before I get told off too...............

This is a lovely starter - light but special. Suitable for non-fishy people and vegetarians:

Tortilla Rollups

4 green onions, finely chopped
60 ml salsa
115 g shredded Cheddar cheese
10 (10 inch) flour tortillas
Optional: Chopped Ham,Turkey or Chicken
In a medium bowl, mix together the cream cheese, green onions, salsa and Cheddar cheese. Spread the cream cheese mixture on the tortillas. Roll the tortillas and refrigerate about 4 hours before slicing into 1 inch long pieces.

Spicy Tortilla Rollups

224 g cream cheese, softened
56 g chopped black olives
112 g diced green chiles
112 g sliced pimento peppers, drained
30 g green onions, minced
45 ml hot pepper sauce
9 g chopped fresh cilantro
720 g flour tortillas
In a medium-size mixing bowl, combine cream cheese, olives, chiles, pimentos, green onions, hot sauce and fresh cilantro. Spread the mixture onto tortillas. Roll the tortillas up and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
Slice the roll ups and serve.

Prosciutto & Parmesan Pinwheels

1 (17.5 ounce) package frozen puff pastry sheets, thawed
140 g prosciutto, thinly sliced
140 g Parmesan cheese, thinly sliced
10 ml prepared mustard
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Spray a baking sheet with nonstick oil spray. Roll the thawed pastry out onto a flat surface. Spread Dijon mustard to taste on the pastry sheets. Bake 10 to 12 minutes.

Thank you all for your ideas.

Looks like i'm going to be spoilt for choice!!
How about a light soup, or melon chunks with fresh orange segments?.

Know how you feel about fussy eaters. There's always somebody who wants to be difficult when you're under pressure in the kitchen, isn't there????
Deep friend brie? Apparently you can by them in the freezer section of most supermarkets and they come with individual packs of coulis - they're yummy!!
prawn cocktail????
Question Author
thank you once again nanagedon - you never fail to surprise me with in depth knowledge of all things non prawn related!

can't have a prawn cocktail as we are having a prawn ring as an appetiser!!

so there!!
prawn ring??? you traitor!!!
i would do a mixed platter... garlic bread, breadded mushrooms, chicken goujons, chicken wings, potato wedges etc etc. they can pick and choose what they want then
Question Author
Thats a great idea gilby.
so simple i'm really annoyed that i didn't think of it myself!
That way i can keep everyone happy, (i hope!)
