Does anyone own one and are they worth the money? I've seen small ones that work like a kind of grinder and I know there are other types that cost 315 and upwards. Worth the investment, or should I just stick to an ordinary cheese grater?

Hi, My mum has one of the little grinders you are on about. She's had it for 10 yaers and i've only seen her use it twice. I would stay with the cheese grater.

Ha! I just realised I meant 15 upwards! Never pressed the shift key.
Since most recipes call for very little nutmeg, I use a "cheese grater" type... cost about $10 here in the U.S. It's made especially for the nutmeg nut and is quite small and handy...

I think they are serious: http://www.schredds.com/nutmeg.htm

Put that on the Christmas list............

i've got one ,it is about 4" long and 1 1/2 " wide like a minature cheese grater with fine teeth just ideal for grating a nutmeg ,i've had it for years but i am sure i only paid about 50p for it from a cooks shop, but most cheese graters have 4 sides with different size teeth on them
I have a pack of three little handheld graters from ikea (cost about 50p/1 I think) the smallest one is perfect for nutmeg, and yes, I used it at least every week! s:-)

Am I out of touch?? i thought you used to get a tiny little grater that was good enough in the jar with the nutmeg?? (assuming you buy the ones in a jar!!!)

Yes, I own one, and actually had to buy a new one recently, since my husband broke the old one.
He actually did that twice since I know him, now that I think about it.

I like the fact, that I can store the nutmegs inside it, and they are tidied away.

Recently, I tried to find one for a friend in London, and after running into all the big stores, without finding one, I settled for a Lemon Grinder.
We realized it grates the nutmeg better than a lemon...

I would not use a cheese grater, the pieces would be way too big.

Actually I saw one in London two days after I'd bought the lemon grinder, and it would have been around 2 pounds.

I have one like a mini flat cheese-grater - it's perfect, was cheap and I wouldn't swop it for anything different!

hi shwartz do a whole nutmeg in a jar and you get a tiny grater inside its just perfect for the job and any leading supermarkets sell them
