Why cant you buy fresh ones of the same shape?

They are Roma tomatoes, sold as plum tomatoes in Waitrose. Same shape as tinned

Iceland sell Plum tomatoes.  Sometimes they are so sweet that you could eat them all like sweets.  Other times they are either bland or so acidic they give me heartburn.

My favourites with a full English.  I don't like the fresh ones they sometimes give with breakfasts as they are either very hard and often not even very warm.

Yes, essential with a full English. I particularly like the ends, wife doesn't, so I get them all. Wonderful.

The very best tinned are Mutti, sold in Tesco and Morrisons. A little more expensive but the best by far. They are a Pomodoro plum which needs lots of heat and sunshine. Incidently Mutti also supply the best tomato purée and passata. I grow Santini plum tomatoes every summer.

Most tomatoes are produced in China and exported to Italy, who process them and so become the biggest exporter of canned tomatoes to us. Mutti toms are grown and processed in Italy and they are far and away the best you will find.

I'll cook with tinned plum tomatoes, but I really don't like them as a side veg. I much prefer fresh...grilled, roasted, raw...any time.

Keep Roma tomatoes at room temperature. They keep their sweetness. They dont like cold

Just saying - a few years ago, a tin exploded in the cupboard.  I didn't know about it until I opened the door & was faced with a 30 minute clean-up.
