Fish Pie

I was reading about someone the other day who says he makes a mean fish pie and his secret ingredient is adding some anchovy paste to the sauce. Has anyone tried this? I just wondered if it would make it taste salty.

I've not tried it but, as long as you keep the salt that you'd normally add anyway (I assume) to a minimum, I think that it would work well enough. (Most recipes seem to say 'essence', rather than 'paste' though):

Thank you. I just wondered if anyone had tried it. I don't add salt to fish pie - just peppercorns. It's an anchovy relish and it has spices so it might be a bit too pungent for a fish pie.
I know people who swear by using Chinese fish sauce in almost any fish-based dish. (It's based around anchovies):

I use fish sauce in Thai dishes. I have the Fornum and Mason paste though (someone gave it to me because I like the pot)
I am eating the cake pies
But I no hearing fish pied
You is no understanding pies is no meat is cake like sweetness no fish ok
Fish only you frying pan only or the you can make curry
Welcome to the UK mailin20...we eat fish pie here. It is NOT a cake. We also gave pies made with meat. Confusing maybe...but nice.
I love Sichuan and mogul cooking - the other hot, spicy dishes of Viet, Thai, Sri Lankan, Goan and Filipino cooking I do not like as much, my body reacting to the fish paste/sauce that is used - and not in a very pretty way.
