Or as we call our version of it, corned beef hotpot, bubbling away in the oven. Haven’t made it in years but just fancied it this week.
My 5 o’clock tipple today will be a Myrtles Apple Martini...25ml each of vodka, Cointreau and cloudy apple juice, and 5ml of cider vinegar. Not had it before but thought I’d give it a go.

I think that’s where it originates Shirl, but our version comes from my Yorkshire grandma, doesn’t have cheese in it, and uses corned beef instead of bacon.
I think I'd like the Martini, apart from the cider vinegar !
Afternoon ladies , yes it's a Northumbrian dish I think it would be made for Miners and fisherman ,
I remember it from all the C. Cookson books I've read ..
I often make it but more like Vagus's , I always chop in some black pudding as well
Oh barf Bobbs, I should have put black pudding on the 'barf' thread - hate the stuff !

Saint Patrick's day is tomorrow, and when Irish Americans have corned beef.
I couldn't eat it by itself but it disintegrates in the casserole and makes lovely gravy, was always a delicacy with cubed cheddar cheese and salted nuts on the bar on Sunday nights till someone mentioned " see him? He doesn't wash his hands in the gents" that was it, no more of me picking , lol
Ooh...I'm eating black pudding now. I love the stuff.
I knew it was St Patrick's Day but never knew it's when they ate corned beef Pasta, it's also my anniversary....
Of when I had my hysterectomy 33 years ago , :0)))))
That sentence didn't end the way I was expecting.
Haha, it's also 4 years ago that I zip wired from the roof of Saint James's Park dressed in a green polka dot skirt and green tights and a black tee shirt, in a blizzard to raise money for the Newcastle United Foundation for disabled children in sport
Was going to ask who likes black sausage
Bobbi well done for your charity fundraising. Glad you had some tights on lol. xx
Tony - just looked it up and the answer would be a resounding 'NO' !
