Help needed! I can't get to my butcher and he can't get to me. Family is begging for my fabulous toad in the hole and the only place I can buy the sausages from is Tesco.

There is a huge selection - can you recommend any? Must be ordinary pork sausage with no extras such as tomatoes or leek.

sorry i cant i hate sausages but do you want high meat content or sawdust and eyebrows
Wow £4.00 on sausages... posh folk eh.
I agree with Mamya. Lovely bangers.
Serve 'em veggie-bangers. Never tell the difference.
If you click through from the main index page
https://www.tesco.com/groceries/en-GB/shop/fresh-food/fresh-meat-and-poultry/sausages?page=1&count=48
to the individual product listings, you'll be able to access customer reviews for each of their sausage brands. Almost universally though, the reviews are a mix of 5-star and 1-star ratings for each product. (i.e. what some people really love, other people really hate).

My own view is that the Richmond ones and the Woodside Farm ones (which Tesco's own 'value' brand) are absolutely fine in casseroles but I'd be looking for something with a bit more flavour for toad in the hole. So I'd probably opt for the Tesco Finest Lincolnshire sausages (or possibly their Finest Cumberland ones).
the cumberland from M&S are appalling
Question Author
Thanks, Mamya I only buy high pork content sausage, those are 85% which is fine by me. I don't think that is expensive for a pound and half of sausage.

Mamyalynne: Although I've just said that I might well consider the same sausages that you've recommended, the reviews for them on Tesco's own website are generally appalling! I'd prefer to go for the Lincolnshire ones myself or, better still, ditch the pork altogether and go the their Finest Aberdeen Angus sausages.

Thanks, Buenchico - I disregard the reviews when it comes to food as a rule, I think they are unreliable.
Is that because Veggie Bangers are tasteless?
I do think Mamyas' suggesion is best.
Tesco own brand of any product is poor.

Go for a top brand
I get the one Mamya recommended. Very high meat content, no rubbish in them. I used to get Sainsbury's 97% meat, but these are better. Have yet to come across butcher's sausages without fillers.
What's a top brand?
barry, don't disregard the reviews , I learnt this the hard way. I bought the pork sausages from the finest range and couldn't eat the skin on them it was so tough. Then I read the reviews, and a lot of people said the same thing.
Heck sausages are very good.
If I can’t get to our local family butchers for their award winning sausages, I find the supermarket extra special ones are a fairly good alternative.
I always have a pack of M&S ones in the freezer, or Sainsburys super duper ones, as a standby.
I can’t abide cheap sausages and wouldn’t waste my money.

But Pasta says they are very good, Barsel. Who am I to believe?
Question Author
Pasta, my butcher's sausage is exceptionally good quality at over 90% meat. The skins have that 'snap' that I remember from my childhood and haven't found on any other sausage for many years.

Anyone tried those Heck sausage?
