I am very fond of tea and have been reading about this. Anyone tried it, if so would you recommend it?

What is ' English Breakfast Tea'?
Question Author
It's a special blend. You can google it but the info comes from an American website.
not sure I follow JD, EBT is a generic term. Are you talking about a specific brand?
In my experience it's tea. Nothing special.
Question Author
I have seen packets of tea labelled as such. I don't know much more.
seen this? Warning, it is truly horrific!
Question Author
Thanks. I think I'll give it a miss then.
Its what you usually get abroad in hotels where they have lots of different teas in a little wooden box - English Breakfast Tea is the only one that is not 'flavoured' and the most like we are used to over here.
Yes Lankeela explained it well, it's a blend of black teas so brands differ. It is fairly strong as opposed to some generic supermarket teas. If i drink tea it's usually Earl Grey, but if I don't fancy that I tend to go English breakfast.
Prefer coffee though :)
The best tea by far, for a morning cuppa, is Glengettie. A proper brew and not half a bag of dust.
Question Author
Earl Grey is vile. I wouldn't wash my feet in it.

Thanks for the tip about Glengettie. I'll look out for it but it may not be available up here in Geordieland.
As I drink my tea like gnat's *** I only ever threaten the cup of hot water with a tea bag - so when going away I always take my own supermarket cheapest with me, although I've recently changed to decaf but again own brand. What I could never work out was whether 'one cup' tea bags were meant to be stronger or weaker than tea bags you used to make a pot.
Sold at Tesco Jackdaw. It is a Typhoo brand.
Question Author
Unfortunately there isn't a Tesco near me. I'm limited to Morrison's or Sainsbury's.

I'm aware not many people agree with me, thanks for the feedback lol.

I've seen Glengettie in the Sainsbury's by me you may be in luck
Question Author
Thanks. I've looked at Morrison's website but no result. I'll try Sainsbury's.
I find tea labelled as "English Breakfast Tea" is like gnats pee.
The general idea of EBT is that the tea is blended to provide the sort of boost to the system that comes from coffee. It's generally more robust in flavour than some of the fancier Ceylon & Assam teas, which might be described as 'delicate'. That said, there are cheap EBTs (often red or brown label) as well as higher quality versions. Another aspect is how much tea you use per cup, or whether you just chuck in a tea bag. (I'm old enough to believe that decent tea requires pouring boiling-hot water onto tea in a pre-heated teapot & letting the tea brew for a while.)

It can't be as bad as Earl Grey. How the Queen can bear to drink it is beyond me.
It's just tea
