My husband does all the cooking, he likes to do it and its not a chore for him. However, his food can be plain and bland. He made a chicken casserole, with leeks and carrots for tea last night and we are having the rest tonight. It was very dull and boring last night. Can I put something in it tonight to give it a lift?

My wife recommends this:
Schwartz Chicken Casserole (bursting with herbs and spices). It's in a packet, and it says "Just Add".
It's "A tasty recipe mix with sweet garlic, fragrant sage, and rosemary for a classic, hearty casserole full of flavour."
From Tesco.
I like the chicken chasseur - very tasty. Schwartz
Chicken tonight and some white wine or martini.
Add some dry cider to it. You'll find that it goes very well with both chicken and leeks.

Some herbs and spices or Worcestershire or chilli sauce.
I suspect that the missing ingredient is salt. Most recipes say 'season well' and what they really mean is add salt (perhaps a bit of pepper, too). The trouble is that people's palates become so used to salt that they forget what natural food tastes like; imagine crisps without salt. Unfortunately, too much salt is probably bad for our health; we don't treck miles nowadays to lick a rockface or salt pan to make up for our salt loss due to sweating profusely under a tropical sun. But most people are probably unable to countenance salt reduction any more than meat reduction, although they are both rewarding if achieved.
I'd put a couple of spoons of chutney, preferably caramelised onion.
lots of tarragon
I remember streetfood style roast chicken with rosemary spikes plunged into the flesh (Back in the sixties). Delicious.
Chicken was naturally tastier back in those days anyway
It certainly was to me, Lady CG.
I used to love chicken when I was young. It was a rare treat as it was quite expensive. Now I can't stand the stuff, along with turkey.
I never get tired of chicken, but it has to be the thighs. Breast meat is bland, flavourless and can be dry.
Add some poultry-seasoning.
Perhaps Lyn will tell us how she made it more interesting.
