Hi When adding water that has evaporated in an aquarium how do you make it safe. When only adding a litre or so it is difficult to measure out the solution. When the solution is 10ml to 50 litres it will be just a drop. If water is taken out of the tap and just left for a couple of hours will the chlorine have gone?

Ideally you should put the water in bucket or large jar with wide opening. put that outside in the sun for a day. For measuring small quantities of medicines etc. 1ml is 20 normal drops, so 1 litre needs 4 drops. Personally, I prefer to let the water stand overnight so I don't have to use chemicals. Hope this helps.

Yes, the chlorine will have dissipated enough.

Very funny bednobs. I worded that a bit wrong didn't I.
As far as I know there is no need to add anything to the new water as you are replacing pure water evaporated and the original chemical additives all still remain in the tank water. (I've put that rather badly but I hope you get what I mean, i.e. the original additives don't evaporate)
^the "original chemical additives" won't evaporate, but their concentration could be reduced - or even disappear - by doing the job for which they were added in the first instance.
And, yes, chlorine and any other dissolved gases in the mains supply will disappear if left for a while....more quickly in these hot conditions.
