Self raising or plain, seems to have been out of stock for over a month, but why? Has the health crisis made everyone staying at home into obsessive bakers?! I could understand bread flour, but you cant buy the other stuff anywhere, and you cant make bread with that.

It's not the flour that is short it's the packing according to a link apc posted a few weeks ago.
I got some today with my Asda shopping
I think you can make bread with any flour, but tbh I haven't tried it. I suppose because it is dry and relatively long lasting people think it's worth having some in the cupboard - like pasta. What do you want it for?
Who knows ?
Managed to get a pack of bread flour today, but my woman normally buys that regularly, and bare shelves at this time, are a bit off.
I guess folk want things to occupy their time in lockdown. Papers are full of baking recipes to try.
Have you tried the smaller corner shops not supermarkets.
I`ve finally found the flour - it's the yeast that I can't find.
We got some basic cheapo stuff in our Asda click and collect this week. Maybe it’s finally finding its way onto the shelves again.
SR flour that is, not yeast. Just for making banana bread.
Our village shop has some - she's been getting supplies from the cash and carry, then splitting multi-packs eg. loo roll, or bagging flour.

She's also had some from the local bakers - now I understand why they'd packed it in their shortbread boxes!
Do you know I haven't been able to buy Maltesers for 3 weeks now, today I did a search on the internet and found out why, some mechanical breakdown at the Mars factory in Slough. I can't remember the last time I went even a week without Maltesers - and those bunny and button things just don't cut it :-(
We have some chocolates with bits of Maltesers in them which are very nice, not quite the same though Prudie.
I managed to find Maltesers - they were in an Easter egg though
In fact I’m just sucking one now... ;)
Again our shop has them - she did tell me a few weeks ago that she was having trouble getting them - to which my answer was "forget the loo roll shortage, we can't have a malteser shortage!"
Plenty of boxes of Maltesers in B&M yesterday.

Atheist, I dont think you can make bread with 'normal' plain or self raising flour, its too fine, proper bread flower is much coarser.
I want it because I like to bake, cakes, sponges, pastry etc!
I’ve managed to get SR flour, it’s the plain that’s in short supply for some reason
Make soda bread.
