No, but a friend of mine recently fancied some strawberry ice cream, so she mashed up some fresh strawberries and folded them into a tub of softened vanilla ice cream, then put it back in the freezer. She said it was absolutely delicious - could you maybe do the same with blueberries ?

Thanks for the replies. I`m trying to make it as a blueberry ripple ice cream and it's difficult to know how much sugar to put in to make the blueberry syrup as I don`t want the ice cream to be too sweet.
I wouldn't bother to put any sugar in blueberries should be sweet enough.
Question Author
The sugar is to turn the fruit into syrup otherwise it will be too watery. I`ve just winged it and boiled up some but I`m not sure it`s thick enough. Will have to see how it is when it`s cool.
Oke Doke 237SJ sure it will be ok, you can always reduce it or add water if need be.

Thanks tony. They are actually whortleberries and I spent a blissful afternoon picking them on Exmoor the other day. Ten times better than anything you can buy in the shops and I don`t want to waste them. I might just chuck them in the ice cream maker if I can`t figure out how to make a ripple.
A lot of the recipes for ripple use a blueberry jam or conserve but you obviously have the fruit so it's trial and error I imagine.
yes 237SJ hedgerow picked fruit always tastes better, as is my dandelion an rose petal wine.
Question Author
That sounds nice tony. Yes, there is something satisfying about foraging for things and turning them into something nice. My Mum used to make whortleberry pie and we had it with clotted cream - lovely.
Question Author
And the good thing about whortleberries is that unlike blackberries, you don`t get the maggots
never had maggots in blackberries.
Question Author
I have. I went picking with a friend of mine who lived in Essex and got half a bucketful. When I got home I was too tired to do anything with them so I left them until the next day and there were quite a few maggots that had surfaced. I remember when I picked them as a child, I sometimes saw a little curled up maggot where the stem meets the fruit.
237SJ bit like growing your own veg?
Question Author
Absolutely. And it hasn`t been wrapped in plastic which can only be good.
OK just never seen it myself. My father used to grow maggots for fishing, he used offal.
