While doing my boring [like this post I hear you muttering] weekly
supermarket shop today, I came across an item boasting the
title "Lasagne Kit".

That looks handy I thought, but on examining the package more closely
I noticed it stated "Just add mince and cheese".

Some kit ! ! ! !

It's not a 'kit', of course it isn't! A kit is a set of tools or items that are intended for a specific purpose, which means that you get everything that you need for making lasagne, and this 'kit' is not a 'kit'. That's misrepresentation, to put it mildly, and Mrs. bookbinder is still annoyed by what you have seen.
well you get many similar "kits" that are designed to put with the fresh ingredients. I am guess ing that this one would have in it pasta, tomato sauce, the base for the cheese sauce, maybe herbs and spices.
What exactly were the ingredients of the 'kit' ?
Lasagne minus the cheese and mince ;)
I suppose the idea of these kits is to have something in a cupboard as a standby....so, stored at ambient temperature. You couldn't expect perishable ingredients to be included.
Anyway, these kits are a very expensive way of buying a few ingredients....avoid!
I've seen those 'kits' too.

Basically you're paying a pound per person for a bit of tomato sauce, a bit of 'creamy sauce' and a bit of pasta. It also means that (unless you're prepared to muck about dividing up the sauces) you're forced into making a four-portion lasagne, even if there aren't exactly four people in your house to eat it.

I've never seen the attraction myself!

There were only two ingredients, the pasta and some sauce.
I see that Chris and I both see the "rip-off" potential of kits......
