I am drawn to the little Russian boy Darusluv - or something. Sad and forlorn and what a singer.

I cried the first time I saw him on Monday night - you know why - he is the double of my deceased nephew at at that age. And although i never heard my nephew I believe he was alovely singer too. Watch it please.

This year's UK version?
His name is Yaroslav and I saw his performance (courtesy of Youtube) on The Voice Kids Russia last year (when he was eliminated in the blind auditions). I had the video bookmarked but, annoyingly, it seems to have disappeared from Youtube.

If you want a heart-wrenching performance from the The Voice Kids, take a look at 10-year-old Bodi performing the song which was played at his mother's funeral. (It's from the Dutch version of the show):

PS: In response to the 'any opinions' part of your post, I think that (just like last year) the overall standard of the performances is high but not as high as that generally achieved by the show in both Germany and Russia.

Unlike last year though, I keep finding myself thinking that the coaches have been allowing the wrong performers to go through to the next rounds. (The 7-year-old country singer was sweet but I didn't think that his performance in the blind auditions was really good enough for him to go through. However the lad from Beccles in the first programme and the young 'airline pilot' later on both deserved to go through in my book).

I certainly agree with the coaches though that young Yaroslav has got a superb voice but I doubt that he's got the performance skills to win the competition. (At least the coaches, particularly Will, have been prepared to be adventurous in their selections though. It was good to see both opera and Asian music winning the judges over. In some other countries, such as Germany, it tends be an 'all pop' show).

Here's my all-time favourite performance from The Voice Kids. It's 10-year-old Raffaele Papadia, who's from Belarus (but with Italian parents), singing in Italian on the Ukrainian version of the programme. (How much more 'international' can you get?)

Move the time slider to 1 minute 30 seconds if you want to jump straight to the start of his performance. However don't stop watching as soon as the song ends because it's lovely to watch his reaction when the coaches tell him how handsome he is and then go on to ask him about his girlfriend ;-)
(No knowledge of Ukrainian is required!)

You've got me going now!

(I love The Voice Kids. I'd not turned my telly on for several moths up until last Saturday but I'm glued to it every night now)

This is 9-year-old Arina Danilova in The Voice Kids Russia:

Here's an example of why they ensure that the performers can't see their family members during the blind auditions.

This is 14-year-old Theodore Burkhardt (who was born in Lebanon to a German father and a Bulgarian mother, before moving to Syria, performing here in English on the Voice Kids Germany). He's got a superb voice but I doubt that he could have kept his concentration if he'd been able to see his father going wild backstage ;-)

For Mamyalynne:

Here's the lad that Jennyjoan is referring to. Who would think that an 11-year old could even make a reasonable attempt at 'Nessun Dorma', yet alone achieve this incredible standard?

I'm feeling ignored on this thread but, just in case anyone's actually reading it, I thought that many of the groups of three on this evening's show failed to really come together as a unit. (Yes, I know that they're competing against each other but it helps if their joint performance works well).

Here are three young performers, from the German edition of the show, (including Theodore Burkhardt from my link above), who make it look like they've been performing together for years:

I’m sorry Chris. I’ve watched a bit of it but haven’t thought it very good.
The young boy singing Nessun Dorma was singing out of tune and made me scrunch my eyes up.
Sorry.
>>> The young boy singing Nessun Dorma was singing out of tune

I noticed a couple of duff notes (at the lower end of his range) but I still felt that his overall performance was good.
Fair enough, Chris. Did he get through?
He got through the blind auditions and then he got through to tomorrow's semi-final last night.
Thank you Chris - Yaroslav was superb!!
I’m pleased for him.
Thanks, Mamyalynne.

I suspect that the odd duff note or two in his performance this year might have been down to nerves. Although his performance on The Voice Kids Russia last year seems to have disappeared from Youtube, his rehearsal for that show (filmed by his parents on their phone) is still available. The video quality is poor but the sound shows that he's capable of hitting every note spot on:

He was damned good in the North London Festival of Music & Drama last year too!

ok - I have to say I can't hear any of them (the kids too well) - with my being deefo, the screaming of the parents, er the music overwhelming - so it took all my effort in hearing alone.

That;s why if I heard a kid singing without the music I could hear his voice -I don't hear people talk about - no notes up - notes, off key - genuinely means nothing to me with the deefo problem/

But there was a lovely black girl on last night and for once I was mesmerised and she herself was mesmerised in her focus of singing she didn't see any of the coaches turning. (Opera -like the young yarus lad) To me (what I could I hear) was listening to a musical instrument - pure and pure - but I don't think she was called back.

go to bed Baldric with any of your lovers

I'll be up or a while yet Conne :o)
>>> I’m pleased for him

I'm glad he got through too but, to be honest, I'd rather see a happy, smiling youngster (who seems to enjoy performing) win the competition. Young Yaroslav seems to be the sort of kid who's got parents that push him into 'serious' singing, rather than just let him have fun.

In contrast, 12-year-old Ky Baldwin (on The Voice Kids Australia) is nowhere near as good a singer as Yaroslav is but he clearly loves performing:
