I have bought Jersey Royals a couple of times recently and they have started to go black after they have been boiled.
Any idea why?

Hmm - don't think I'm doing much wrong going by that info Eleena.
I wondered if it was the potatoes themselves and if anyone else has had similar problems specifically with Jersey Royals.

Are you using aluminium pans?
I haven't bought any Jersey Royals yet this year. I seem to remember that they were always a treat on Easter Sunday. June is very late...?
Jersey Royals used to be delicious. Now they are tasteless. The reason? They used to be stored in seaweed, which contains iodine and gave them their distinctive flavour. That is, of course, until the EU stuck its nose in and banned it. Yet another reason for voting Brexit.
I thought we'd nailed the 'blame the EU' thing years ago.

Many farmers still use seaweed (vraic) and the EU never banned it. Jersey Royals have lost their flavour due to different farming practices, especially growing them under plastic for financial reasons.

Still keeps being trotted out though hc.
Tilly .. I'm afraid the Jersey Royals are late this year because of the 'Beast from the east' .. etc

The cold period more or less slowed the growth and hence the late arrivals !
no matter, within seven answers we've had one about race (possibly light-hearted) and one about Brexit. Peak Answerbank!
Sorry forgot to mention the illegal imigrants propably had a hand in the delay.

Tilly - I'm using stainless steel pans. I've used the same pans for years to cook all spuds and no problems before now.
you are cooking them in steel pans - they are royals - and they expect and deserve copper pans......what an insult. I'd go black if I was a spud from there.
When I saw the heading for this OP, I thought it was a crossword clue!
I am getting Roosters from Lidl and they are to die for. You just need to steam tho as they are like balls of flour.
Roosters are the one potato I would never, ever buy again because they are, as you say, like balls of flour. I want potato, not flour.
I know Diddly - you just cook them slowly. I love them Mmmmm
there's another potatoe - Kerrs Pinks - now they really go into mush into the water. But they are good for chips.
