I do meat, white sauce, pasta until I have it the depth I want
Sauce first, then lasagne, sauce, lasagne, sauce, lasagne & sauce:

right - am a bit concerned re the meat being first as it could stick - do you butter the dish
I do meat, pasta, cheese sauce...and keep going.

When it's cooked, don't forget to leave it to rest for ten minutes or so, out of the oven. Then it won't slop all over the plates.
Nope mine never sticks I do it in a pyrex or clay dish and never had a problem in 30 years
I also did it this way in a professional kitchen and that is how we did it when training.

ok thanks all
This is also one of those questions where you will get several different answers and they will all be right
^^^ The final 'sauce' in my post above should have had '"white" in front of it (with all the other 'sauce' references being to the meat sauce).

I can't recall ever making lasagne but I've consumed many (both home-made by friends and bought by me from supermarket chiller cabinets) and I can't recall any problems with the bottom layer sticking. (Indeed, when I compare it to the layered bakes that I do make, such as my famous pilchard bake and my own-recipe corned beef hash bake, I think it extremely unlikely that there would be any problem).
If you want to try an Italian American version...no white sauce. Layer mozzarella and ricotta instead. And meat sauce first, followed by lasagne, then cheese.
I do meat, pasta, meat, pasta, white sauce, cheese!
I alternate meat and pasta then finish with the sauce on top
This is somewahat a 'Technical' question, so I am going along with Buenchico. Sauce first, etc, etc.

Hans.

Thanks Bazile - think that was the layers I used to do. Everything now is simmering as in meat sauce.
"what way do I layer it?".....horizontally is the easiest.
smacks gingejbee over the head with canneloni
...not still in the cann, I hope!
Really! I thought vertically was best.
