Can anyone tell me if supermarkets freeze their cucumbers to keep them longer. Bought one yesterday and sliced some up today. It looked as if it had been frozen and was thawing out. No taste to it either.

Certainly not deliberately...I hope. Most likely poor storage.
There's so much water in cucumbers that freezing them would make them go all soft and squidgy (as happens with soft fruits, such as raspberries). So I very much doubt that your cucumber had been frozen.

People tend to forget that, just like potatoes, strawberries, etc, there are lots of different varieties of cucumbers, with some being far nicer than others. You've probably just encountered one of the poorer varieties.

Alternatively your cucumber could just have been a bit old. They tend to loose their 'crispness' quite quickly after picking.
I was watching I think First Dates and noticed when someone was having a drink/cocktail - there were i think thinly sliced cucumbers in it. What drink was that. sorry maggie for digressing here.
Probably a Pimm's.

Apparently a mint and cucumber cocktail is very refreshing JJ but haven't tasted it myself. My cucumber has gone squishy round the outside so it's either been frozen or is just past its best.
Cucumbers here in Miami are short and fat, like oversized gherkins.
Very tasty and juicy.
Cucumber is nice in a Martini.
Cucumber with no taste ?!? It's a miracle ! A cucumber that could actually be edible for a change. Now where's that bunting ?
