What kind of environmental impacts does fishing tuna have on the planet? It's hard to find out...

I remember Tesco were going to boycott John west tuna

But well.. They didn't did they!

So what's the deal? I know fishing is a drain on the environment.. And with plastic in the oceans, it can't be good for the general health of the ocean with boat oil constantly being used and some nets being lost overboard (not deliberately).. What is the deal with Tuna.. Is it ethical to eat? Is it more ethical than a battery raised Chicken?

Danny.... I've seen the tuna catchers programme where they do this, and spend a good 2 hours fighting the fish to finally catch it. They can go up to 50K for ONE FISH!?!

I assume john west doesn't do this to catch the Tuna.. but if they did. That'd be fine in my eyes.. As long as the boat wasn't idling!

Ah that's awesome HC!
It's available for considerably less, ummmm, as long as you're not a crazed Japanese sushi restaurant owner.
Greenpeace don't seem to have provided a 'league table' since 2014 but here it is anyway:

There latest news about tuna (and John West in particular) seems to come from 2016:

Wait.. so most Tuna is caught with a pole?

Do they leave the boats idling whilst they fish?
Thought line fishing is frowned on.

It's a odd topic it seems... A hard one to come to a conclusion from! I will certainly be looking for the pole fished stamp from now on though.
Whenever I buy a tin of Tuna I always ask myself – is it Tuna friendly?
