Decided to make bread. Put dough in oiled bowl to prove and covered with tea towel. Have checked it and it’s not risen one iota. Yeast and everything is all fresh. Any ideas how I can rescue this??

Did you remember to put in the yeast?
Have a look through this - it might help with the rescue effort?

Yep yeast definitely added. Not had this happen before.
Will have a quick look at those suggestions Flonska - thankyou x
if yeast is out of date this can happen...put bowl in a warm place ? airing cupboard
Did you use Strong bread flour?
Question Author
Yes strong bread flour. Don’t have airing cupboard. I e heated oven up, turned it off and then put bowl in there. Will see what happens......
what sort of yeast did you use Smow?
Question Author
It’s a new tub of Allinsons dried active yeast which I last used a month ago.
Did you remember the sugar?
I ask because I've done that before, forgot the teaspoon of sugar in with the dried yeast :o(
Question Author
Yep I remembered the sugar. Just going to check oven now...
Question Author
It’s finally starting to rise...
If all the ingredients were put in and the oven heat does the trick, then maybe the room temperature might have been a bit cold to start with? Ideal Range = 75 to 90 degrees F. (not much leeway either side).
Did you add the salt at the same time as the yeast? If so thats probably what caused it,
Question Author
Added salt at same time as recipe said but not directly onto the yeast
A slow rise does give a better flavour if that's any comfort,
Question Author
Well it didn’t rise anywhere near as much as it was meant to. It’s in oven now so hope it at least tastes ok....
What time did you make the dough? Have you done a rise and a prove or just one?
If there's even the slightest draught in the room where the dough is left to rise, it will be affected. Check if you left windows/doors open.
Is it warm enough?
