I've been in Scotland for a few days and am really enjoying the "local foods" - Haggis, Scots Pies, Bridies, Tablet, Pint of Heavy, Caboc cheese, Empire Biscuits - it's not that these are unobtainable in Sunny Northants, just that they seem much more attractive in their home setting.

What local delicacies do you like eating when you're away from home?

Traditional Kentish Kebab.
You can't beat a stottie cake filled with mature cheddar or have carved off the bone with piccalilli when in Newcastle.

Gypsy tart when in Kent.

proper Cornish pasty from cornwall
North Staffordshire oatcakes when in...er...North Staffordshire. (I think they sell them in Derbyshire too)
Cawl is delicious and rarely available outside of Wales, plus Felinfoel Double Dragon.
Can't find proper Seed Cake anywhere these days though !

Ooooh - proper oatcakes, Tilly - I used to get them in Whaley Bridge when I lived up there - the best thing with a fried breakfast :+)

Bridies, Spiced Beef Ham, Beef Olives when we are in the land of Mrs JtH's birth.....

They are pretty much unobtainable down (oop) here despite the staggering numbers of staggering Scots we entertain throughout the year. :o)

We return from Scotland with the car looking like we are on some sort of humanitarian mission....
Scotland - Haggis, Tablet, Lorne Sausage, Jock Pies, Butter biscuits by Simmers, Aberdeen butteries and Abroath smokies and any seafood
Cornwall - Cornish pasties and clotted cream tea
Norfolk - Cromer crab
Southend - seafood
N Ireland - Irish stew

The local chip shop seems to scorn such fripperies, bhg - but its battered salmon fillet is quite good :)

I may have to find a Selkirk Bannock to take home - and some square sausage too.
Half stottie mixed grill for Saturday breakfast on Tyneside. Egg,bacon,sausage and black pudding, heaven on earth.
Gypsy creams are biscuits aren't they, if so no.

Gypsy tart is an obscenely sweet tart filled with a mix of condensed milk and muscovado sugar and baked until set. I don't have a sweet tooth but a mouthful of gypsy tart takes me back to childhood.
