Odd Combinations - Barf Corner Perhaps?

I went for dinner with a friend last night, a lovely relatively new restaurant down here, the chef having worked for the Savoy and Michel Roux - he started a week before Monica Galetti.

The food all very nice, however my partner had to go for the most unusual dessert that we may gave come across.

How about curried yoghurt with soft cucumber and a caramel sauce?

The caramel with a hint of the curry was amazing, the rest bizarre and more suited to a sweet raita. I can't find a recipe for it but, conceptually, easy to make not that I want to.

So what odd combos have you 'experienced?'

nothing as flamboyant , but a butty whose contents were peanut butter and strawberry jam.
Beans on Toast with a slice of cheese melted on the top of the beans.
(made a heckuva mess of the toaster)
Still haven't tried a fish finger butty tho :-D

Alba, one of Mr Cakes favourite student meals was a cheesy beano, a toasty filled with cheese and baked beans!

Many moons ago when ciabatta and focaccia were becoming popular the staff restaurant was offering cheese and pickle in focaccia.
mashed potato and corned beef with cheese and onions - ok so far but then they poured a tin of tomato soup all over it!!
Eccles, Mr Alba likes a cheesy beano too (must remember that term, it's a good one!)

I now have a hankering for corned beef hash Islay :-D

Omelette with mole sauce. At the time, I didn't know what mole sauce was. I tend to steer clear of odd combinations but the one thing I can't stand is anything sweet and savoury put together. Duck and apricots, salad with grapes, ham and pineapple - yuk
Cheesy beano must be a Scottish thing, Mr Cake and Alba are the only ones I've ever come across to eat them.

Islays corned beef meal reminds me of a meal I had at a pub whilst on a course. The pub and menu were both grim so I decided to play it safe with the vegetarian pasta. A plate off luke warm tinned toms with a handful of frozen diced veg poured over some pasta, no seasoning of any kind. It was vile.

The next time I attended a course at the same location I took myself off to M&S for a sarnie. There was some consternation at my opting out, in the afternoon my team mates looked at me with a mixture of envy and admiration.
On the rare occasions I have beans they must have cheese on them! So you may be right about it being a scots thing
I don't have any Scottish DNA at all but we always have grated cheese on our beans on toast, they just go together so well I can't imagine anyone not enjoying the combination. It's obviously a gourmet dish enjoyed by those with superior taste buds ;)

I lived in Scotland and never experienced beans and cheese together.

One weird one in Denmark was marmalade with bacon - and not bad either.

I used to eat beans and cheese toasties. Food of the Gods! Along with cheesey mash. Heinz tomato soup is delish with mashed potato. Cheese, chips and beans were always a firm favourite as well.
lawdy, haven't made myself cheesy mash for ages.
My lot don't like it, they're just weird.
