I am looking for a really good instant coffee which does not pretend it is real coffee with bogus froth on the top and bogus grounds in the bottom. I'll pay what it costs, but I'd like something special.

I'm not an instant coffee aficionado but this is what Which recommends:

Azera is the big favourite in my house.

The "wholebeans" are the problem, since I really dislike the grit in the bottom of the mug. Any more ideas please ?
Clipper is pleasant from Sainsburys.
Gran Arum from Lidl - very nice
My son & also a work colleague recommend Carte Noire
I like Dowe Egberts - not to expensive but a great taste.
"Too" duh
Nescafé Alta Rica for me.
They reckon you should change your brand of coffee every 3 months or so. Nescafe original is my favourite after trying lots of different instants although Carte Noire is pretty damn good too.
I am with blue scorpion. I only buy Carte Noire. Tesco 2.99 ish but every few weeks they cut it to 1.99 so I buy a few
This question is hard to answer because you've not told us which style of coffee you like. (Lightly-roasted, with natural sweetness? Rich-roasted with a 'bit of clout'? Something else?).

However I reckon that Asda's Rich Roast Coffee is amazing for the price:

with their 'Extra Special' Colombian

and Costa Rican coffees

also being well worth a try.
Percol instant dark and espresso
Tesco Gold, brilliant taste.
I'll second that ^
Carte Noire for me as well.
Starbuck's Via is some of the best coffee I've tried… regular grind or instant. It comes in a small box of 8 packets in a variety of flavors… Columbia is my favorite.

Each packet is very finely ground coffee that mixes well with hot water. Here in the U.S. one of the boxes of 8 packets is about $10, but well worth the cost...
^^^ Although Starbucks offers a wide range of 'proper' coffees here in the UK, they have just two instant coffees in their range:

Does anyone today still use coffee percolators?
