Pickled Egg Question

I pickled some eggs a couple of months ago but when my oh cut one open it was soft in the middle, I obviously did not boil them long enough to start with, oh ate it anyway and I have been watching him ever since expecting him to double over with belly ache, he hasn't yet, has he been lucky (he has got strong guts and can eat nearly every thing) or do you think these eggs are really fit to eat?

Well this site certainly has its uses as I've never came across anyone in my life who actually has eaten a pickled egg. I've seen them at the chip shop and gathering dust at the supermarket but never seen anyone who actually bought them which made for a funny discussion at the pub once where we wondered about the psychological profile of someone who eats pickled eggs.

The general consensus of our psychological profile of someone who eats pickled eggs but is never seen buying them was an angry loner who was possibly a serial killer (Which I'm no way implying that you are) which was a funny conversation.

Back to your pickled eggs. What do they taste of? Couldn't you achieve the same conclusion by just pouring vinegar over your eggs? What other weird foods do you pickle and what made you pickle them and the egg?
The pickling vinegar gives the whites a more chewy texture.
That sounds like a definite pukefest sandy.
Pickled eggs are nice. Not that I have them very often.
The supermarket always has a shelf of them so they must sell well enough.

However, JJ, you must admit that they are much quieter and don't cause as much ruckus as pickled customers.
What about pickled walnuts? Are pickled egg eaters into these as well?
Eggs yes, walnuts no.
I've had pickled walnuts at Christmas.

But never a pickled egg.
Pickled walnuts are lovely.
Don't they just taste of walnuts and vinegar or does pickling them change the flavour?
They are marinated in not just vinegar, but various pickling spices also.
I didn't know that stuey. Okay that changes things slightly but still sounds like it would make me hurl.

It's just a matter of time before some famous chef brings out "Pickled cake" on the menu to try and be different.
Hi cecil To answer your question the eggs will be perfectly good to eat as long as you take then out of the vinegar and eat straight away. When we have a glut of eggs I pickle some as I love them on salads as I normally hate the 'eggy flavor of boiled eggs. I always boil them just done (dark yellow) in the middle but sometimes the bigger ones are a little liquidy and so far I'm still here to tell the tale .
Pickling foods is not only a great way to preserve a glut of anything but depending on the vinegar and spices used can greatly enhance flavours too.

Pickled peaches or nectarines are luscious.

A good balsamic on strawberries is divine.
They're good with salted potato crisps, nice combination of textures.
Mamy I'm pretty sure that pickling is high in salt as well as acidic and due to the age of most of the posters here and by their ailments in the health section pickling as well as heavy drinking and no excercise except using their fingers to type out letters on the keyboard could well be recipe for disaster.
mamy I do a nice salad with strawberries and cucumber with a balsamic dressing made with a nip of sugar and a pinch of pepper ,delicious.
