I know that Barolo is a very good red wine, not sure how long it keeps, my friend brought us a bottle around once which was her Dad's before he died and it had since been kept for years (1970's) and it was undrinkable, it had so much sediment in it and smelt and tasted revolting. I think it may depend on the vintage as to how long it would keep and still be drinkable.
Barolo is absolutely my favourite Red,  and keeps well.  However,  81 was a poor year!!  I would drink it now with a good red meat or game bird such as pheasant.
Depending on the vineyard,  It is worth from 25 upwards.
You have to be a bit careful with barolo. It can lose its bigness and become rather hollow tasting. Goes well with strong flavoured food. I used to love it but now it gives me migraine:-(
