Does anyone know if any of the supermarkets are doing pre-soaked fruit for making Christmas cakes this year?

What on earth is pre-soaked fruit and why would you use it?
Diddlydo, do you ever read your posts back and see how abrasive they can sound?

I've never seen pre-soaked fruit on sale but if you don't drink (and consequently don't have the necessary booze) but want something more interesting than soaking your fruit in tea I can see the appeal.
Ecclescake - you obviously have a problem. I ask a simple question and you for some reason appear to take offence without actually answering my question.
PS to previous response to Ecclescake - what fruit does one soak in tea and why? Sounds even worse than dunking biscuits in tea which I find a revolting habit.
Gingernuts dunked in tea are excellent.

To answer your question marwell. Lidl do an excellent Jamaican Rum for £9.99 for 75cl. I use it for Rum and Raisin ice cream in he summer and what's left I use to soak my christmas dried fruit.
Diddly, your responses in many threads really do come across rather brusquely, even if it is not your intention.

If you are not someone who has alcohol in the house I can see why pre-soaked fruit is available for sale. Soaking fruit for cakes in black tea is not at all unusual.
I've heard of soaking fruit in tea for cake making, my gran used to do it.
Whoops, sorry Mccfluff.
Well....I can only say that I've baked many cakes in my life and never had the need/desire to soak dried fruit in anything.
Perhaps you should try it....makes for a nice moist cake
you've obviously never made tea bread or bara brith?
Sainsburys pre soaked fruit isn`t soaked in anything as such - it`s just partially rehydrated in palm oil etc so that it isn`t too dry.
and yes, tea loves are lovely. Many people use friut soaked in alcohol to make their christmas puddings and cakes, its always been a big tradition in our house to stir the fruit every day
Hear you go diddlydo, a recipe for you - http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/2360671/tea-bread
In response to the post about Sainsbury's "pre-soaked" being coated in palm-oil - leave it out. Palm oil is evil ls stuff.
