What do young people cook nowadays? As on a regular basis. I imagine most young people work so don't have much time so what do they cook for dinner?

Ready meals, microwave meals, pizza, pasta bakes etc, some of course still cook traditional meals.
Takeways in micros, pizza & KFC
I don't think most young people know how to cook.

Is this really what they 'have' for dinner?
By the way trigger what is mac and cheese, I've heard of it but not sure what it is?
I would guess they eat at the works canteen or at the pub/bar/cafe down the road. In the evening grab something simple like a sandwich or whatever.

If into cooking there are plenty of "student" cook books around telling them a million things to do with budget mince.
"mac and cheese" = macaroni cheese?
My sons cooked after they left home and the youngest one is a great cook now...it's me who cheats with the ready meals, I can't always be bothered.

But tamborine, how do you have leftovers of a cheeseburger? Trigger had leftovers from Monday's mac and cheese. Why not call it a cheese mac or something? Why the 'and'? I do feel like ET sometimes!!

Robinia, thanks that sounds more like it so it's short for macaroni cheese! What kind of things do your sons cook on a day to day basis?
Well they're not exactly 'young' anymore but as well as traditional roasts/chops etc they love stir fries, one pot casseroles/chilli's/curries...I think they make it up as they go along.
The Amercans call it macaroni AND cheese, it's just macaroni cheese to me.
I've been cooking my own meals since the age of 10 years old. I'm a picky sod so I don't eat a lot.

Steak in red wine sauce with pasta.
Toad in 'ze hole.
Pasta with a herbal spiced sauce with meat if preferred.
Homemade pies.
Traditional chips, peas, gravy and chicken (not a fish lover).
Sheppard's Pie.
Hot pot/stew.

A lot of those take a long time to prepare/cook but I suppose it's worth it!

Dizmo, do you cook these on a daily basis? For example you get in from work and start cooking?
I come in from work (cooking) and cook a meal for myself from scratch. I would cook 24 hours a day if I could! I've always loved cooking and I think that's half the battle. There is always time to cook a meal. If people don't enjoy cooking, it doesn't matter how much or how little time they have, they won't do it.
Unfortunately at the moment I don't work. I want to but just can't seem to find a job.

In the past when I was working I used to cook them meals yes. When I used to work 13 hours a day as a self employed landscape gardener and garden designer I used to feel the benefit of spending 2 hours in the kitchen cooking my tea. I also used to make cheese pie which is just mashed potato in a pie dish covered with cheese. It still takes time to make that though and it isn't cheap; I mix the potato with cheese instead of adding butter/margarine whilst mashing.
