Continuing with my mission to introduce one new recipe each week I am going to have a try at calzone this week. Any one got a tried and tested recipe that doesn't involve using spinach, brocolli, etc to bulk up the filling. The children all like the cheese, ham, tomato sauce that you get on pizza but I think that might make the calzone look a bit skinny and mean. Thanks.

When I made one, I cooked a bolognaise sauce (thickish) and put chorizo and mushrooms in it, it was wonderful.
Well, I did actually put spinach in it but you can't really hide it.
Well, as a calzone is just a folded pizza, it's not really a new recipe is it? It's a bit like canelloni and lasagne, it's the same except the shape of the pasta
What's wrong with putting spinach or broccoli in it?
I don't think Sherr's kids like it, mine definitely wouldn't eat it with broccoli in.
Kids will eat anything if they're not given an alternative. Pandering to their supposed dislikes is the way to create fussy eaters.
I'm sure Sherr knows best how to feed her children.
Oh, I was getting this muddled with piroshki recipes.
Lol Tilly, what's piroshki?
Just looked, they are like a calzone aren't they.
Sorry, rocky, i was called away. They are Russian pasties basically. You can put all sorts of fillings in them. We had them in Seattle. Wonderful things.
I don't know whether your children like fish but my favourtie recipe is this one - http://www.rte.ie/lifestyle/food/recipes/2011/1004/1868-calzone-puttanesca/ . I usually leave out the anchovies and capers and swap mozarella for cheddar.

To save time I also use a supermarket pizza dough mix - no faffing about with yeast etc!
