After watching an episode of Man Vs Food - Him indoors asked me to make Stromboli, which is bit like a folded pizza, instead of smearing the base with tomato sauce you layer like a lasagne.

All I can say is wow, it was gorg, I did a layer of pancetta, tom sauce and then grated mozarella cheese, then a layer of salami followed by the sauce and cheese then a layer of peperoni more sauce and more cheese, then you finish of with sliced onions and peppers for crunch.

Fold the whole base of like a massive cornish pasty and crimp the edges.
MMMmmmm I want more it was that good!!

I do calzone which is similar. You eat it hot with a ragu poured over it but I love it cold, its ideal picnic food.
That sounds amazing. Did you go by a recipe? If so, do you have a link? I love Man v Food, proper grub!
Is it normal pizza dough?
google stromboli or calzone, there are loads of recipes. Basically you get your pizza dough ready to the topping stage, put toppings on half of it then moisten the edge and fold it in half. Do a folding crimp around the edge like a pasty then bung in the oven at pizza bake temp for a little longer than a flat pizza.
How did you cook it?
I wouldn't like it then, I don't think.
With some careful shoe-horning, could you squeeze a couple of garlic baguettes inside as well?
mmmm...the last time I had calzone was in Little Italy in NYC. That-and Zeppole-were the must haves at the Feast of San Gennaro every September.
fgt-you can also roll the stromboli up...spread the filling over the dough-then roll.

Sorry was elsewhere.

It is a basic pizza base dough rolled out, the gubbings is pit on one side in layers - apparently that is the main difference to a calzonie, you don't put tom sauce on the base.

yes Pasta i saw that - I think I may try that way for a buffet - it would make it easier to eat.
