I am going to cook baked potatoes in a fan assisted oven for the first time.
My girlfriend says to score the baked potatoes, drizzle extra virgin oil over them then add SALT.

I think adding salt prior to cooking them will dry out the Baked Potatoes... has anyone got any advice about the salt question or any other cooking tips for Baked Potatoes.

Any help/tips woould be great...

Thanks...

i microwave for 10 mins then oven bake until crisp.

the ex-husband olive oils and salts his ... yuck!
I just pierce them. I don't eat the skins though.

I actually prefer them cooked in the microwave.
I usually prick a few holes in them and start them off in the microwave. That speeds the cooking time. Then I rub them wil olive oil before putting them in the oven. You can add salt which I think is done to crisp the skin up a bit. It doesn`t dry them out.
Salt won't dry out the potatoes - only the skin. Nothing worse than soggy skin on a baked potato!
works just as well without oil and salt.

What is this modern obsession with olive oil?

Jamie Oliver ruins every dish he cooks by drowning it in the stuff!
I suppose it depends on whether or not you like olive oil. Remember that lots of JO's cooking is based on Mediterranean ingredients. Also-olive oil is a heck of a lot healthier than most vegetable oils.
As to the potatoes-olive oil,salt-both or neither...is fine. I'd prick the spuds-not score them.
you should salt the taty because it wil make it crisp i have done it befor because im a girl the salt dose not afect the taty so is not a problim BUT DONT ADD TO MUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11
I never prick or score my tatties, just give them a rinse, add salt over the skin and chick in a hot oven. Lovely crispy skin, with a fluffy centre.
Just bung them in the oven for 2 hours and stop fussing!!
2 hours?????????????Are you trying to cremate them?
I score roast spuds, but not baked - just bung in the oven for an hour or more.
Rape seed oil s much healthier than olive oil when cooking.
just pop them in the microwave, wrapped in kitchen paper, then eat with Worcester sauce and an unhealthy amount of butter.
Have you tried McCains frozen jacket potatoes?.They come in packets of four. They are precooked and then frozen and can be reheated in a microwave between three and ten minutes depending on the number of spuds. I have found them exceedingly tasty but I have to admit that the skins could be crisper; however, this doesn't bother me as I don't eat the skins but for those who do I would suggest a few minutes in a hot oven would do the trick.
My OH is in charge of cooking and he always stabs the potatoes and brushes olive oil on, and a teensy bit of salt on mine and a bit more salt on his. Then in our fan-assisted oven usually for about an hour and a half, depending on size and they come out well cooked with lovely crispy skins. Delicious! (I sound just like Nigella, con't I?)
