Hi everyone.
I'm really angry and depressed at the moment. I am 41 and I am trying to lose weight. I have a Beer-belly that looks 6 months pregnant. Ive even had small children asking me if I was. My daily consumption of food used to typically be (at the very least) as follows: 2 sandwiches, 2 chocolate bars, 2 packs of crisps, Large KFC or Large Fish and Chips, two small bottle of Coke, Ice Cream. Ive been like that all my life. In the last Ten weeks however, I have cut out all Sweets/Crisps and coke. I hardly ever eat Chips. My daily food intake will typically consist of 4 slices of Marmite on Toast, Mackerel Peas and Boiled Potatoes for dinner and a Yougart for desert. Not the same everyday of course, but something just as healthy. I mostly drink water and Tea, with 1 cup of Coffee a day. On top of this I have been doing an hour a day on either the Treadmill or Exercise Bike for the last Ten weeks, burning around 500-600 calories a day. The first week I done no Exersize but only ate Two bowls of soup a day and burnt of about about 12 pounds. Since then, with my extreme hard work I have lost nothing. In fact, the last couple of days I have put on 3 pound, making my Grand total weight loss for 10 weeks a miserly 9 pound! I have another 10 weeks now before I go on holiday to Memphis. I want to lose 2 and a half stone before I go (Getting to about 11 and a half stone). I have told the missus that if i am still a Fat C%nt then, I will eat myself to death. If I cant look good no matter what I do, I might as well be dead! Please Help!

you're not eating enough and exercising too much for your food intake so your body has gone into famine mode
how tall are you BTW?
well done for dropping the junk, good weight loss takes time and patience, if you eat a healthy diet with treats in moderation then you are more likely to stick with it and gradually the weight will come off and your health will improve.

I am 6 foot 1
I second that what Cazz has said. My motto is Cut out the Fat and the Crap.

By eating plenty fish and chicken meals .Cut down on bread as that is fatal for me. By drinking a small glass of unsweetened grapefruit juice each morning this helps to break up body fat but some people if on certain medication can't drink it.
Do have a treat now and again. And to lose weight it is called Healthy Eating not dieting.

I have a gym at home and use the treadmill or the bike ever day. I also have a stomach cruncher, free weights and rowing machine. However, I dont want to use the weights as Ive been told that muscle weighs more than fat. If I put on more weight at this stage, I will believe it is fat even if its muscle and I will just go insane. I want to lose the weight first, otherwise I will only be a cheeseburger or two from the way I am now.
So that makes you 14 stone?
Doesn't sound over weight to me, for a man
11.5 stone for a man who is over 6ft, is far too low
Are you all reading the same thing as me?

"My daily food intake will typically consist of 4 slices of Marmite on Toast, Mackerel Peas and Boiled Potatoes for dinner and a Yougart for desert." this is not enough food!
The body will go into Famine mode and IMO has done that already
Weight that has taken years or even dacades to put on does not "come off" just like that.

It can also take months and years to lose the weight and you should be thinking long term, not just short term.
removed replies? Why?
Low carb and high fat is the way to go. It's all about what the body does with insulin-which in turn causes the body to hold on to fat cells.
Get rid of all processed carbs like bread,pasta,sweets,sugar-which is in everything!
Get back to basics and eat real food.....fresh meat,poultry,fish...and keep the fat on-the body needs it. Eat other good fats like olive oil, butter, coconut oil, full fat yogurt. Also leafy green veg-but limit starchy ones.
I've been eating this way for over a year-lost 23lbs in 3 and a half months-have kept it off for almost a year.
More and more research is showing that low calorie/high carb diets do not work.
You need realistic goals. 2½ st lost in 10 weeks isn't likely in my opinion. Possible but unlikely.

If you are about 14 st at the moment then you are in the same position as me and I'm having problems encouraging more to come off.

Avoid these extremes of "I'm going to lose the lot in the time I say" and "I'm going to eat myself to death". Really, they aren't helpful.

To reiterate others, this weight will have taken a long time to go on, it will take a long time to come off. The body doesn't like change, you have to gradually convince it not to compensate for the smaller amount eaten by slowing down metabolism, it needs to be coaxed into setting a different weight as being "right". Time and again.

Go find a sensible eating plan, one you can stick with long term, and stick with it. and expect a year or so before you approach your goal.

Oh, and consider contributing to http://www.theanswerb.../Question1121202.html on a regular basis ?
Losing weight is hard. You are definitely eating too many carbs though. I would cut out the potatoes. Stock up on protein bars and pickled eggs and try to burn at least 300 calories per day on cardio
Try not to lose the weight too fast. If you lose slowly you're much more likely to keep the weight off.
I agree with Pasta! My husband does a very low carb diet and that seems to work for him.

I find it hard to lose weight, I'm only 5 foot and weigh 10 stone (overweight!!). Last year before holiday, I was calorie counting and that's the only thing that's worked for me. I'm doing it again now as I'm going away in July.

I would echo the cut down on bread for sure.

Good luck and well done on your weight loss. As you are exercising - you're definitely not eating enough!
Please don't have protein bars as suggested by smilingcrow. They are just packed with rubbish, and things you don't need.
