Not much fazes me anymore at work regarding customers, but one this morning was a pearler, and I had to scrape my chin off the floor when it happened.

It was about 10 this morning and a guy came to my till with 2 bottles of wine, I scanned one through, bagged it then lifted up the 2nd to do the same, only to discover it was half empty. I was totally flumoxxed and couldn't fathom out why it was half empty and why he didn't seem bothered. When I looked up at him he said "i've drank it" to which I stupidly asked "when???" Turns out he had (obviously) guzzled half of it before paying for it.

I was a bit (well ok, a lo)t taken back but said nothing, and took his money. However instead of leaving the store, he wandered of back round to the wine section, was there ooo a minute tops, then came back- dropped the now empty bottle of wine at my till and walked out!!!

I was utterly amazed....

Now my question is- could you drink a full bottle of (white- if that makes a difference) in under 2 minutes?

I couldn't...............the daughter probably could.
Dunno, you provide some wine and I'll give it a go.
Sorry I should have washed them first before leaving the excess packaging.
Good grief, I can't even imagine that!

Seriously? Wow!

I was probably stretching the 2 minutes to be honest. He gulped the first half immediately, then paid, then was out of sight for the length of time it took him to gulp the 2nd half, bet all in all it wasn't a full two minutes.

I'd need hospital treatment if I did that?

Telling ya sibton, I was utterly flabbergasted.
Blue Nun maybe... but a fine Bordeaux would take at least 5 minutes as I'd be savouring it.
LOL OG
It's horses for courses........

How long would it take you to finish a box of Fondant Fancies if you had a proper 'munch' on ? :oP
I can't even drink a bottle of wine in two hours.
Open it at the other end, Traci.....

Jack may have a point

(dammit, hate it when she's right!)
This is a typical alcoholic trait. Very sad.
The ones who do vodka are harder to detect - it's said vodka doesn't smell. It certainly doesn't smell on the breath like wine, but I think it gives the whole person a kind of surgical spirit smell.
A sad story, Boo.

oh I know, yes, he was obviously an alcoholic, and no, I really wasn't taking the micky out the guy with this post. It was more a "wow, did he just do that?" kinda thing at the time!
i had a mate who could drink 8 pints of lager in an hour, and appear to be cold stone sober. He didn't have a drink problem as such, never ever saw him drunk or running for the pub when it opened. some people just have a strong constitution., the more you practise, the better you get at it. i practise a lot, but still get ill after just one bottle of wine. sick all night!

But percy, surely a normal (bad term, but only one i could think of!) social drinker can and would at least wait till they've got home before opening a bottle? Not drinking a full bottle before you've even left the store!
And at 10 in the morning!

Don't think even I could manage one in 2 minutes, although if someone wants to buy me a bottle I'll have a go! ;)
Chronic perhaps, B00 - a strong craving overtaking him........and that won't be the last, malheueusement.
I cant even down a mouthful of wine in two minutes. A whole bottle........I won't share what the likely effects would be.

I'm not sure whether to be impressed or disgusted.
Question Author
"malheueusement. " <<<Don't even know what that means?
