Have been using Flora spread for years,
They've now gone and 'improved' the taste...
Improved it?? Errm, I don't think so! .... it's horrible! ... it now tastes cheap and nasty, has a strong artificial margeriney taste/smell...

So, now I'm after another spread,
Any recommendation, please?

I stopped using Flora-and any other man-made spread- about a year ago when I heard about this...may be an urban legend-but I've seen it mentioned a few times-including that a scientist conducted the experiment.

"Margarine is ONE MOLECULE away from being PLASTIC..
This fact alone was enough to have me avoiding margarine for life and anything else that is hydrogenated (this means hydrogen is added, changing the molecular s tructure of the substance).
You can try this yourself:
Purchase a tub of margarine and leave it in your garage or shaded area. Within a couple of days you will note a couple o f things:
no flies, not even those pesky fruit flies will go near it (that should tell you something)
it does not rot or smell differently because it has no nutritional value ; nothing will grow on it Even those teeny weenie microorganisms will not a find a home to grow. Why? Because it is nearly plastic. Would you melt your Tupperware and spread that on your toast?"

PS-I stick to butter now.

Thanks Pasta,
So what butter do you use?

Would be interested to hear what anyone else uses/recommends, as definitely need something to change to..
I use real butter...............
I always use butter now, never really worry which brand as long as it is pure butter. Mind you some of the soft margarine makers package theirs in such a way that you have to be careful to tell the difference.
I switched to flora light from flora original

the new taste hasnt affected it thankfully, despite the artificialness of flora I hate the taste of butter.

Ok, thanks Spotit, will have a look tomorrow, cheers
I don't worry about what brand-but try to get the best on offer. My Aldi has local,Cornish butter that's good.

Thanks Cazzz, might give the 'light' one a try then

Thanks Pasta,
Ok, I will def have a look at the weekend,
Thanks alot, all.
pasta's first answer is both silly and simplistic, and very non-scientific. The truth is that very many "good" things are just one molecule, or even one atom, away from being "bad" things. That's the way everything is made up.
I like lurpak.
Lurpak lovely
No need to be insulting,gingebee.
I *did* say it may well be an urban legend...
You can't buy margarine in this country any more.

(I heard this from Stephen Fry on QI, so it must be true)
lurpak unsalted melting into wam toast oooops what happened to the diet
How is that insulting, Pasta?
I have Summer County made by Unilever and this comes in 2 kilo tubs and does not break the bank. I would recommend this to anyone and hope it is not nearly plastic. It tastes okay to me so hope the rest of you will like it.
Try Bertolli
I use proper butter, but if you want to avoid milk products but still want a natural spread, try the olive oil based spreads.
