Always in search of a new grape variety, I was excited to see a limited edition Inycon Grillo 2010 on offer in Tesco. Grillo, a grape variety with which I was hitherto unacquainted, is a bold and expressive grape variety and one which the Incyon makers have used to create a superb white wine, full to the brim with flavours of tropical fruits and satsuma, with a lasting crisp lemony zing. This wine strikes the perfect balance between freshness and richness. Currently half price in Tesco at £4.99. Offer ends 18 March.

Also - from Mr Tesco :

Ogio Zinfandel Rosé IGT, Puglia 75cl currently £4.99 (usually a daft £9.99)

Had bucketfuls of this last summer for a party - excellent

Nice work, Dave. That'll do for the S-I-L. Any Zinfandel Reds you know of?
I have drunk this in the past (but probably not the current vintage) - as the description says 'big fat and chocolatey'

Just had a 2003 Vinea Reserva Cigalles last night with a few friends, superb fruity, fruity, yummy!

Shame there's none left, but really lovely in the going..
Question Author
Dave, the page could not be found. What was the name of the wine?

Nibble... where did you buy that from?
Odd - works for me

anyway it's

Brazin Lodi Old Vine Zinfandel
That's what I get from the friends, unfortunately, it was for a birthday a little while ago.
Question Author
Thanks, Dave. I can nip to Waitrose after work. :-)

Never mind, nibble. I'll keep my eye out for it.
Question Author
I see there's a touch of petit syrah in that wine, Dave. I will go-a-hunting this evening.
Hi NoM, just back I've been searching for your wine..

Try here, but it's the 2004 vintage - I'd go for it again -

Enjoy :-)
Question Author
Thanks for that, nibble.
NoM, I am surprised by your damnation of the French - though many wines have become tepid and boring, they have two trends developing, some fab young producers away from the trad areas and then rejuvenation of the classic wines and tastes with big fuller wines, really reflecting the old art. The Ch Peyne I have mentioned a few times, the Ch d'Arsac as examples of the latter.

As to your meal, I would love to get you a bottle of the Domaine Tara Terre D'Ocre - a young couple called Follea making this in the heart of the Ventoux in the Luberon Park, - it's a blend of 45% Grenache, 45% Carignan, and 10% Syrah,

It is full of soft tannins, and has lovely notes of spice and ripe berry notes - and very much driven by some depth (the Carignan) and the fruit in it. Goat's cheese, pork, and salads.....mmmm. tad under £8 for it.
My wines this week

Santa Digna Riserva Carmenere 08 from Chile Central Valley @£6-50 - excellent value for the money and full of blackcurrant flavour, good nose, criticism, perhaps a little thin but something has to give at this price.

Ch De L'Estang from the Côtes de Castillon - and NoM,one of those more unusual wines with more punch in it that I have just referred to. All I am goin to do here is attach a review: http://www.cynthiahur...onder-dont-miss-this/ and I paid £7-50 for the 08 and which I throughly enjoyed. More of that goping down the gullet here but not tonight.

Reflets de Ch Cissac - the disappointment of the week and closer your views for French wines. Overpriced for what it was and in comparison to the above - teaches me to drink the 2nd wine of Cissac!

The one tonight will be an Errazuriz Estate Riserva 2010 Merlot Chile for £4-50 on offer at Sainsburys (half price me thinks).

It just boils down to preference, DT. I don't mind a Chateauneuf, but on the whole, I prefer New World Reds.
thats what the Domaine Tara offers......New World style

The Ch d'Estaing is a wonderful mix too....

You might want a look at the New Words thread too - gottya, sorry.....you may have entered the English Dictionary, well the AB one, with my new wine term.
Have to agree about French reds, although having spent so much time in France on our extended trips, I got used to it, but I much prefer Italian reds. And have always thought chateauneuf over hyped.
Question Author
I do love a Primitivo, Ethandron. But then it is precisely the same grape as Zinfandel...
NoM: would you get 6 of your Inycons? I ask because I have a Tesco voucher that gives £4 off £30 for a few days - that means 13% off. So your wine would be £4.33 if I got six - is that even more tempting?
Question Author
Absolutely, gingejbee!! What a bonus.

I am just sat in my local imbibing a very fresh and fruity Hungarian Riesling., whilst contemplating dinner - pan fried salmon with a warm green bean and goats cheese salad. I have a stonker of a red to go with it. :-D
I am also contemplating dinner ...

... but I can't be bothered to walk to the microwave at the mo.
