freezing soup

usually when i make soup i put some in a jar as it is easy for transporting without spillage,but i made french onion soup yesterday and was wondering if i put the jar of soup n the freezer would it be ok,it wont smash or crack,'will it',it is for my friend whom i meet on a tuesday.

Couldn't you put it in a plastic container?

i could but its easier for me to carry and it wont spill as i am using a walking frame

So long as the soup has enough room to expand in the jar it shouldn't crack it, but quite honestly I'd prefer say a plastic water bottle.

..and the reason that the gin and vodka bottles are OK in the freezer is that the contents don't freeze at -18C. Anything that freezes could crack the glass.
No, no and no... don't put the glass container in freezer, full or not. The expansion that causes the breakage can be sidewise as well as vertical... it would be sad to ruin the leftover soup that we all helped you make...
