Well, I don't know much about Scottish cheese. But ...

Last time I was at La Fromagerie, I bought some cheese called LANARK BLUE.

OMG ... it is totally awesome!

And, get this ... one of the first blue, British ewes' milk cheeses to have been produced in Britain since the Middle Ages.

I'd never thought of Scotland as a cheesey country, but I might have to explore a bit more.

So if anyone North of the border (ie from St Albans upwards) can recommend any good local cheeses, then ... gimme gimme gimme !!!!!

Thanks for that, Zhu.

The "cannister" option looks particularly ... err ... "convenient".

LOL ... is there really a Scottish island called Butt ??

=0D
I doubt whether deep fried brie (if that's what it is) comes from Scotland Dave.
Besides, not everything up here is deep fried. Maybe you should take a look across the pond and see the deep fried butter they serve in the States, and don't get me started on some of the southern States deep fried recipes.
Even Nigella did a deep fried Bounty...............

I just re-read it ... it's called "Bute"

Do you ever get to Oxford Jayne?

Just off the A34, near Didcot, there is the village of Steventon. And at the end of the village on the old road to Abingdon there is a bakery with brilliant breads (like Lardey Bread) called The Old Farmhouse bakery.

Apart from their bread, cakes and all the rest, they have a small cheese range (some 20 odd cheeses and always some delish Oxford Blue) but usually a fab selection. There's also a lovely gift shop on the site of the old farm as well - and before you come into the village, off the junction and towards Harwell (after you turn right to Steventonin fact) there is a great butchers and veg farm shop by the side of the road.

Anything from the Loch Arthur creamery is highly recommended and they got an award and the British Food & Farming awards and they do really great work for people with special needs. Oh, and did I mention they make really lush cheese???
