How much is a cup?

I have just decided to do some cooking with my daughter and the recipie is all in cups?

Can anyone tell me how much a cup is please?

It's an american measure and can be found here...

...actually, it can be Australian too, which is different!
if EVERYTHING is measured in cups it shouldn't really make too much of a difference what measurement you use for it as it will all be in proportion
About 50p at the local store.
...and the problem is measuring cooking fat by volume!
Thats why I don't cook. Bought a book once called something like 'The basic basic cook book' and it was supposed to be a very basic guide for know nothings, but it had lots of references to things like 'use a good sized knob of butter'! What the hell is a good sized knob? (Answers on a postcard please)

i have a great cookbook that i always refer to - it's written for students going away for the first time. Called "how to boil an egg".
It even tells you how to make beans on toast
