Anyone know of a decent garlic press? I managed to bust three in the last three years!! I've always gone for what I considered to be the solid, hinged type press and have tried different makes - the last one being a Maxwell Williams version.

I know I should really use a broad bladed knife if I'm going to do it properly, but I seem to be unable to master the technique!

Any other (sensible!) suggestions, please?

Thanks

Thanks sandyRoe

Good idea, - will have to get a second one, then. Wouldn't want to taint my current one with the smell of garlic.....!! lol
A fine bladed microplane works quite well and is much easier to wash up!
I just whack it with the flat of a heavy knife blade, then chop.
I buy packets of frozen garlic from Morrisons-works out really cheap.
I use a spoonful of this from Tesco:

It's great!
This is the one I use when I can remember it, as I usually do the knife method just for one or two!

As you can see it's got some good reviews too
Which brands have you managed to ruin and what was the failure mechanism?

Thanks everyone - you've all been most helpful.

Mercia - Like the look of your suggestion - I think radiogaga uses the same!

Scotman - can't remember the other two makes, but Maxwell Williams was the recent one that broke - all of them have gone at the hinge. I've always washed them by hand as the dishwasher doesn't always flush out the last little bits!

Anyway, maybe I need to master the technique using a broad bladed knife..... God help my fingers (or the knife) ha, ha!!

Ive got something similar to this and it works fine.

Dave.
I use a fine grater.
your heaviest knife, flat against the garlic, blade parallel to the work surface, and then just smash down on it with your fist or the palm of your hand.

Chop, chop with the knife and voila......No need for a press
