I'm not talking about the obvious instances when grated cheese is required, like a recipe of a pizza.

Do you just grate cheese to make it go further?

It does wind me up a little when people grate cheese to put in a sandwich!

or to go with a salad.

I know sometimes people will grate cheese to make it go further, don't do it, just put less cheese in or buy more cheese, don't be so tight with the cheese!

I like thick cut cheese in a sandwich or a big! big! chunk of cheese with a salad.
I like my cheese so I can get my teeth into it.

and as for the pre-made sandwiches the sell in the garage, grated cheese with mayo!!! Why do the have to put mayo in every bloody sandwich they make grrrrrr!!

Thanks for mreminding me to buy cheese, I never grate my cheese, I eat a big hunk just as it is
Sliced every time. My hubby reckon's grated cheese tastes horrible - he's a cheese officianado! He buys tons of the stuff on line - it's nothing for us to have 15 varieties in the fridge.
Either.

Yes folk grate to make it go further, especially if watching calories. Reasonable isn't it ?

Nothing goes with a salad except the kitchen waste bin.

The only time I grate cheese is the italian stuff that goes on Spag. Bol. etc. I don't think a big chunk of cheese on top is quite the same.

Due to dietry restrictions in this household, we don't eat as much cheese as I would like, but when I eat it it has a be a whole piece. I don't like cheese with a salad at all!!
Grated cheese loses all the flavour. No point in it. And I agree about the Mayo!!
I use it either way. Sliced in a sandwich and grated or shaved on hot food or salad.
I grate it for a sandwich. Not to make it go further but because I find it overpowering and it's easier to have less when grated.

I don't grate it for salads though...
I would rather eat a small lump of cheese than grate it and make it look more.
I like it being overpowering ummmm. I love cheese and could live on it. But I don't!!

I remember an old school friend, his father (a Policeman) would have for supper, the largest chunk of cheese he could get in his hand with a huge onion in the other hand, he would then just take alternate bites out of the onion and cheese, I love cheese and onion but I could never eat it like that.
I'm more of a mild cheddar sort of person....
Mine has to be extra mature.
Mature Cheddar Cheese is lovely with farmhouse fruit cake!!

"I would rather eat a small lump of cheese than grate it and make it look more. "

My point exactly, if im having grated cheese in a sandwich, it had better be at least 2 inches thick, im not fooled by grating it to make it look more lol!!!!
very thin slices for me, I cannot stand a lot of cheese, sometimes grated on a sandwich is nice and light and manageable
I now fancy a lump of Cheese and a crispy apple!!
