Tough swedes

Further to the debate about why swedes are so hard to cut up a week & a bit ago: I was down our local street market & noticed one of the best veg stalls had quite small swedes & turnips. When questioned, he said that the larger they get, the more woody, fibrous & hard they become, so to keep his customers happy he only buys smallish ones.

I'l have to try a smaller one next time then, I ended up chucking the last one I bought in the bin 'cos I couldn't cut it!

Yep, he`s right. I bought two, 7 & 9mm diameter ( 3"& 3.5" in real money) to do some mashed spuds & swede, & they chopped easy as pie!
