I've seen mould growing on it so I'd say it can.

I've not seen that - how old is it? Maybe insects/fungi got in.

If it's instant then the container hasn't been airtight.

Sounds like instant. If so you can break it up and use it.

Far be it from me to disagree, 😄, but no, you can't. Tastes revolting.

Had it many times.  You must buy a brand you don't particularly like.

If it's instant granules...it hasn't "gone off"...it's got rather damp. It will be safe to use, but will taste unpleasant.

Chuck it out.

Its just instant gold coffee, but gone black and stuck together. Its a proper kitchen coffee container with lid, so should be sealed. Just baffled why its done this, never has coffee do this before.

No conditions have changed.

Your container has failed.

Have you used a damp teaspoon to take coffee out.

Agree, it's got damp. Change your coffee container.

Was it washed recently? Could have been damp when it was refilled

barry1010,

Its a possibility I suppose, but its a fairly new set, so I can't see how it would have got damp.

The coffee just seemed to go black overnight.

It is heat changing that causes condensation. The slightest bit of moisture and the granules soak it up. Best to keep it in the original jar.
