Just tryin to find out if anyone can shed some light on why our baby boy seems to gasp for air n have trouble breathing.
We have mentioned this to the midwife and the health visitor, but they kinda just say it'z normal n shrug it off.
Also, we have just started him on Gripe water, at 1 month old, as he really does have trouble burping n popping, well, he pops a lot but it doesn't seem to make him any more comfortable as he constantly has his knees up and strains to the point where he goez red n purple in the face!!!!
Please can someone help out.

Hi, if it is colic here's what I was taught to do with mine when they were tiny.....

Lay the baby on your arm, face down, with their head towards the elbow, then raise you hand up onto the baby's belly and massage the stomach area with your finger tips [the baby should be slightly head down]. Burping and popping should follow :O}

One of mine used to almost...

Sounds like colic - mine have never had it but maybe you could google it?
He shouldn't be gasping for air! Possibly colic with the stomach, but not being able to breathe properly - you need to get him seen asap!

When you say gasp for air, do you mean as if his breath has been taken away or is he struggling to breathe? If the former if could be colic, has anyone listened to his chest?
Hi, just looked at some of your other posts and you mention that your bedroom is damp. Maybe your baby has got asthma. You need to get him/her checked out by a doctor (and sort the damp if this is the problem).
Any true breathing difficulties with a newborn need checking out.
I would agree with ljdksa. Take him to the doctor about the breathing and get him checked over. It may well be something 'normal', but you need to put your mind at rest. I personally think that this is something a doctor should be looking at rather than a health visitor or midwife.

Take him tomorrow.
I would bypass HV and midwife and see your GP. That doesn't sound normal!!

Yes, like his breath has bin taken away, it started out as happening once, now it is becoming more frequant n more gasps each time, thank u to everyone who has answered so far, we have bin informed about Colic and used to use Infacol, it seemed to help a little when we first started him on it, but then kinda lost itz effect.
The Gripe water we only started today n again, it seemed to help with the burping, but the pains seem to b gettin worse as he now cries n whimpers.

Yes off to GP tomorrow please.
If this is getting worse quite rapidly phone a doctor straight away. You shouldn't leave it with a young baby of this age.
I would be taking him to Hospital NOW.!!

If it is getting worse and you are concerned then maybe you should go to A and E - they are generally very good with babies and don't think that you are fussing. You know your baby best so it is your call. Hope it gets sorted out soon, x.
and let us know how it goes - but please see a doctor now. Not worth taking any risks.
Yes you need to see a doctor but giving a baby drinks of water helps the bowels so less straining..

Thanx everyone, just to let u know that the room isn't damp, this woz when we were in Spain by ourselves babyless, he is still feedin well, very well infact, regularly n at 160ml he'z lovin hiz food.
We have an appointment tomorrow to see the GP which woz made yesterday. The wierd thing is he goez from being fine, either sound asleep or quiet n breathing fine to gasping a few timez n getting very fidgety.
good grief, I would have seen the doctor much sooner. its not normal and I wouldnt rest easy knowing he was lying in his bed desperately trying to catch his breath, the poor mite must be feeling awful.
