how much should one give as a donation instead of flowers when someone dies?

It all depends on your circumstances. If you are hard up then �10 seeks OK to me. If you are working and would think it OK to spend �50 on a night out, give around �30 at least. But it is usually anonymous, so dont feel bad if you are feeling the crunch just now. At least its better than buying lots of flowers that just wilt and die anyway.
I would say �10 would be appropriate.

It's the thought that counts anyway.
i would use the amount i would of spent on flowers as a guide, then maybe add a bit on depending on your finances
As others have said it depends on what you yourself can afford, I think that �20 is a reasonable sum to donate.
�10 - 20, or roughly what you might've spent on flowers.
