I only have to open the bottle for a few seconds and the whole rooom is tcp smell for a few hours ....why?

My MIL alwas used TCP for everything, so much so that as soon as you went into the house you could smell it on everything.One year we went for new year and we had some christmas cake and even that tasted of TCP. It was awful.!
