I went into Birmingham last night for a concert. I got the train. A couple of comments. Travelling in at 6.30 / 7, some of the revellers were more drunk that I would have been at the end of the evening when I was their age. Clothes. The boys / men were dressed similar to how I would have, casual, trousers / jeans, shirt / T-shirt. The girls, and this isn't meant to be judgmental, were less "dress to impress" as "dress to show flesh". There were a lot of tatts on show, documenting their lives, dates, "Eat, pray, love" drivel. The concert was lovely, full of childhood nostalgia.

Ah well that reminds me of going to a Pogues concert in London in 1988.
We had a crate of Becks before leaving the house, and a couple of pub stops later we were so drunk by the time we reached the Town and Country Club we were barely aware the gig had already started,
Plus ca change?
"o tempora,o mores"perhaps,dr.
// we were barely aware the gig had already started, Plus ca change? //

yeh but Shane McGowan would have been in the same state as he took the stage.......
oh god you were at the same concert - you little raver !

In my earlier days, I used to travel stoked-up, and four sheets to the wind on the way back. The big secret is 'do not be aggressive' - and you meet some interesting people....

boxer who was reading maff at uni ( big fella, good, nose not squashed ) Rooshan sailor who was interested in my briefcase ( EIIR ) and presumably thought I was english KGB. Queen Elizabeth in Russian is Elizaveta Veendsora. More than once invited to join he party - at 11 30 Jeez
Shane McGowan wasnt exactly abstemious
awful teeth too
Yep, getting old.
Grow old disgracefully and enjoy yourself.
Not sure things have changed much. We used to get pretty well oiled before going out because drinks in venues were usually very expensive and carp and long queues. The new yoof do the same.

Drink will always play a part in a night out, not to much wrong with that, its when the drugs are mixed in.
Regarding the tatts, just think what old peoples homes will look like in a few years time, especially facial ones.:)
Gosh! My youth was nothing like that - or those of the respondents. A few friends and I went to seethe Beatles at Manchester (from Bradford area) - it was foggy and our journey there and back was anxious and clock-watching. No alcohol was consumed - mind you we were only 17. But we never did drink when going to see something, might have a drink in the bar at the interval and when we got home.
This was in the 1960s when drink, drugs and raves were supposed to be everywhere. No-one ever offered me any drugs either.
^^^ I drink far more now! The drugs, alas, are prescription. :(
don't understand all the tatts now, arms completely covered with them
reminds me lumps of stilton cheese, as for concerts an booze ermm order of the day, and still is, cheaper then the venue piddle, lat band i seen was whitesnake or was it bad company...
//I find as I get older I only need 3 shops in my life, Specsavers, Boots and Greggs.

My life is all specs and drugs and sausage rolls //
Myself and various friends never over indulged in alcohol. We had two or three drinks but not enough to embarrass ourselves. I didn’t see the point in squandering money that I had other uses for. Tattoos on women I find repulsive. Sleeve tattoos on men disgusting. I’ve never been to a concert or festival and like it that way. Brash, noisy, boozy environments are not for me, never have been.
I reckon I had a pretty good life from 16 to 24. Partied hard and I did drink, but I never got drunk. Lots of fun and quite a few gigs. There were drugs at some of the parties but I was never tempted. My parents were very tolerant because they partied too and had a good social life some of it a bit wild. It was the 60s, a great decade to be young. Best days of my life.

I am glad I am not young now.

But it's gon
Don't get old - it stinks (sometimes literally!).
LOL about Tats and blue cheese. Can't stand tattoos on women or men!! I just can't understand why people have them.
But it's gone! I can't think what I was going to say.
Lol...reminds me of the early 1980s and my dad used to shout 'and yer needn't think yer going out dressed like that!' I said the self same thing to my daughter 10 yrs ago, but she never took any notice!!
