My friend's mum passed away about 2 months ago and my friend is still extremely sad. My friend is in his 50's and he is still grieving. He hasn't got a big family so only himself.

I tried to ask him to get back to work to have his focal point on work other than staying in the house and crying all the time. I am just worried that he might lose his job the way its going.

I think he need professional help to get him back on track with his life. Is there any help out there for this sort of situation? Or I will be too cruel or bad idea to suggest this to him?

Ask him if he knows about Cruse:
https://www.cruse.org.uk/
Or his GP should be able to help.
GP
say he is depressed
he has reason to be

two months is very early to get over the death of a parent.
leave it for a year
clearly he has to work during some of that time

so that is what you can do
the only problem is ..... counselling for family grievance hasnt been shown to work - so for my brother, we waited.... two years

you did ask
Cruse were very helpful to my husband when we lost our daughter.
does his work have anything as an employee benefit he could access
like peter, i too thought 2 months was rather a short time to expect someone to get back to a normal routine
I think you ( he ) can get signed off for depression
I wd kick off with that
very varied results from counselling
deffo works for some
2 months is not long for grieving. You could suggest he see a grief counsellor or his GP. Is he signed off work?
If he is not up to going back to work perhaps taking up another activity may help. His GP may be able to signpost him to group activities with people in similar situations or someone he can talk to about his situation and what services he can access for support .

He may continue grieving for a long time, possibly for years, but he may learn to cope, to feel stronger. A couple of months isn't very long to adapt, maybe in six months or so he will be able to begin his recovery.
