I read this. No, there isn't any point. It's ridiculous.
Only if Mexico apologises to the indigenous population who they usurped.
I find the whole idea of apologies for historical acts stupid.

Nobody in Spain now had the slightest involvement with the actions of their ancestors of 500 years ago. Even one generation on and the sins of the fathers cannot be laid at the feet of their sons (or daughters).

Demanding an apology from anybody for something that happened so long ago is the height of stupidity. But that, it seems, is the world we live in.
in a world of inherited wealth, people can profit handsomely from the acts of their ancestors.

Me too.
"...in a world of inherited wealth, people can profit handsomely from the acts of their ancestors."

And your point being?

People profit from the acts of their ancestors all the time (despite many governments' best efforts to prevent them from doing so). Are they to apologise just because they have a few bob?
Dunno what Obrador is hoping to gain from the demand, but it looks foolish to me; and I'd assume most others in the world. Maybe he's contemplating a compensation claim.
well in that case they'll have to apologise to the Aztecs!

An apology is actually an acknowledgement of in this case a known historical event. Would this pave the way towards compensation?
In the same vein should America claim the same from Mexico for the Alamo?
I agree 100% with NJ's first para. at 13.09. Well put NJ.
No.

As was wondering if as most of them have Spanish ancestry and are Catholics, perhaps it would be quicker if they just apologised to themselves, without involving another country.

I can only think that it's some kind of precursor for demanding that they give all the gold back.
Sounds like somebody's been necking the El Dorado.
Most Mexicans are looking at this demand with raised eyebrows. Especially as it seems to have come from nowhere. AMLO is prone to making sudden ill-considered decisions, e.g. the fiasco around Benito Juarez airport.

The Mexican government should be looking to fix the appalling way it treats its indigenous population before it starts asking other countries to apologise for things that happened 500 years ago.
Perhaps the Mexicans really intend to finance President Trump’s wall lest they get charged for the wetback invasion of USA?

//Perhaps the Mexicans really intend to finance President Trump’s wall //

If they do, their bill will be a bit lower now.
