Please can any of you in the business of dealing in washing machines and/or their repair advise on the purchase of a first time buy for my grandson and girlfriend who have just moved into their first home? Are there any makes to steer clear of? Are there more problems with 1400 spin speed models (I have heard that they burn out quicker) and is it necessary to get a 7 kg model or will a 5kg model do? They are looking at Beko as they are stretched financially. Please advise asap.

You can lower the spin speed on most machines.

I'd look at John Lewis.
This is the occasion when a look at Which? is invaluable....of their best budget washers for 2019, three are Zanussi...but their cheapest Best Buy is the Beko WTG471M1W at just over two hundred quid.
Give AO a ring and speak to someone. Brilliant company and so helpful.

...btw, it's a 7 kilo model and no, faster spin speeds aren't to be avoided, reliability-wise.
