Is there an App to help people of a golden age to teach people how to use mobile phones etc in an easy bite size method. My dear mum does not understand why the battery goes flat with 3 days even if she doesn’t call anyone and therefore switches it off to save power!!! So nobody can call her!
Thanks

I'd not know, but surely you can explain that if it's off it can't tell if someone's trying to call, and that the battery goes flat because it's spent the last three days continually checking to see if there's a call trying to connect to it ?
I can't find any relevant app. (Sorry!)

However I can offer a simple explanation about why the battery goes flat:

When someone calls a mobile phone the system needs to know where that phone is. (If all calls had to be routed to every mobile phone mast in the world the system would be totally overwhelmed. So calls must only be sent to phone masts close to the relevant phone). For that reason all mobile phones periodically transmit a signal which shouts out "Here I am!" to local phone masts. Those signals use up power from the phone's battery.

I have had this discussion a million times about the phone havening to poll the nearest beacon for a signal but no joy! Mum is the same with her Kindle! anything less than 80% is panic mode! I have turned the percentage indicator off now!

Thank you for your replies, I knew this personally of course but maybe if mum sees it so well explained she may understand, I do hope so xx
I suppose its also worth explaining to her than the batteries in our phones are quite different to the batteries in our clocks or torches. Made of different stuff and need to be charged every other day. Simple as that!

Thank you I really have tried to explain it but it just isn’t being absorbed, she objectes to paying the price of paying for hospital TV but also objects to using the state of the art (£650+) iPad with full WiFi and 3G to watch TV or Radio ! But she doesn’t want to waste the battery for her scrabble game! Plugging into the hospital mains electricity is theft! Apparently!!!! Grrrrm
A phone with written instructions would be a start
