I have had a message from a man in Holland via Ancestry.co.uk and I can read his message via the email from Ancestry.

I want to reply to him but I cannot open his message on Ancestry - in fact I cannot open any message.

If I reply to the email will he get it? Does anyone know why I cannot open the messages in Ancestry?

If you can't open the messages on Ancestry.co.uk it's almost certainly due to incompatibility between that site's design and your browser. Try another browser; with luck, you'll then be able to open (and reply to) messages.
