My son is currently in year 6 and has recently been diagnosed with a learning disability, we have decided to move him into private education from September this year and he will be repeating year 6 again to help give him a head start and a confidence boost.
We are considering a last minute holiday early July and taking him out of school for the week, as his older sisters break up from college at end of June.
I would add that he has always had perfect attendance at school and my guilt gland has kicked in !
Do you think the school would object on principle, or take the above facts into consideration and allow ?
I would rather get permission than pretend he is sick

Thanks in advance

Just phone in sick every day.

I work in a school and the times a kid is off sick only to come back saying how nice it was in Spain or Centre Parcs or something.

You can only ask the school, which I would do in the circumstances,
In July they wouldn't be doing much school work anyway. Most of it is done and dusted by then. If he won't be returning to the school I'd just take him without a seconds thought.

Would not his new school want a report from his ,old school and not consulting his old school might result in a negative report?
A Headteacher has a legal duty to refuse permission for term-time holidays except in "exceptional circumstances" I don't think that what you outline above fits the criteria.
are you tied to that time? I ask because if you are picking that time becuse it will be cheaper, it probably won't be (or it will at least be not that much cheaper) as scotland break up so early, this period is considered still as "peak"
Danny...if his attendance is otherwise good I doubt it'll make a difference.
Black Noir most schools nowadays, especially this year, do take a strong stance against allowing trips I am afraid to say. https://www.gov.uk/school-attendance-absence/overview
In my school and the school my children attend there have been fines for parents doing this (approx £70) although perhaps as he is leaving anyway he may be okay but then it could be deemed unfair to other students.
I am aware of ski companies offering to pay the fine as part of the holiday package! Good luck by the way with your little boy and the new school.
