HI there
My 2 nephews and 1 of them is my Godson spend time between 2 houses 4 days with my sister and 3 days with their father. Last night there was a violent incident in which their mother and her partner were arguing and my sister picked up a kitchen knife and brandished it at her partner he tried to get the knife of her and cut himself in doing so. He had to have a few stitches as a result. The children were in the house at the time but did not witness it and i hope they dont know about it but I feel their father should be told what has happened as he has a responsibility to the children but my parents think this will rock the boat and cause all kinds of trouble however I disagree. I feel as a godfather I have a responsibility to these children and if I was a father I would want to know what kind of environment the children my parents are of the impression that this will all blow over that it was a one off but Im not happy about it I feel the father should know.

It's a stressful time of year and as you have said its a one off incident that the children didn't witness it I'd let it go.

your right ecclescake it is a very stressful time of year. Guarenteed as much as turkey and Christmas pudding there is a family fight of some kind it usally is me that causes it but not this year !!
Toughie gordiescot. Are you sure the children know nothing? Are A&E liable to report it to the police as a violent incident which is liable to be investigated? You are right to be concerned. Is it possible to talk to your sister and her partner about it and spell out your concerns. I do not know your relationship with your sisters partner is but, if it is not good I would be wary of letting it cloud your judgement.
Stay out of it.
Have a word with your sister. If the police are taking follow-up action, then you should report it - if not, and you are happy that this is very much a one-off, then back off. Otherwise, if you have any doubts, raise your concerns.
Just be aware of it and keep an eye on them in future. In all probability this was a 'one off' due to the stress of this time of year. Reporting it will cause a lot more stress.
If the police are taking follow-up action, then you should report it - or even better, she should tell him.
If the police are taking action then it's already been reported!

Stay out of it!
not necessarily so within the family.....
I doubt it'll be appreciated. The children didn't witness it. If they were there then maybe she would have shown more restraint.

Why is this time of year so stressful ? It is supposed to be a season of peace on earth and goodwill to all men it has to be the most stressful time of the year !! Why
Pressure. Anti climax.

I don't celebrate xmas so never get stressed about it.
It is so stressful because at this time of year everyone is cooped up together in the same house or even the same room. Arguments develop , often there is more alcohol around than normal and people drink more as they do not have to go to work. Result, even more arguments.
yup, ^ all the cracks there get exaggerated.....
Keep out, not worth risking kids being taken into care atm
Call the RSPCC anonymously and ask their advice, it could happen again with a worse outcome.

Mum says their father and his new wife could apply for sole custody. He is an excellent father and I think he should be informed. If that happens surely my sister would get visiting rights
You sound like a wonderful brother...

What do you mean umm

My ex brother in law is very calm and very rational person. I think he would handle the situation sensitively.
